March 25, 2016 -- March 23, 2016 -- We are in full swing for March Madness, and unless you are a sports fan who has been living under a rock, you should know what this means. For basketball lovers such as myself, it is the culmination of the men's college basketball season, where epic games and battles are condensed into a 3 week period. The tournament that is televised on TV is for Division I, and for those that do not know, there is also a 64 team tournament for the other lesser known divisions.
Occidental College is in Division III currently, and they have never made it to the postseason big dance. They started off the season with 6 wins heading into conference play, which is always a plus for building momentum. They continued this trend by winning 4 of their first 6 league games, and at this point, things were looking very promising. However, this was the beginning of a slump that would be difficult to get out of, as they lost 7 of their next 8 league games. The SCIAC conference has a postseason tournament for the top 4 league finishers, but Oxy did not make this list, as they finished conference play with a 6-10 record. The program has seen some improvements over the last few years, but the overall goal is still to make the big dance.
On a brighter note, junior Andrew Johnson made the All-SCIAC 2nd Team, while junior Jay Miller made the 1st Team. This is a good foundation for next year's run at the big dance.
