April 22, 2016 -- As the school year winds down, there is a lot of preparation for the the end of the year activities (banquets, senior send offs, etc.), summer training, and of course for the teams that are still in season. On this day, I provided some assistance for all three of these elements. For the end of the year activities, the photos for the seniors were still being finalized. I spoke about these photos at length in previous posts, but in short, these photos were going to be shown during the banquets to send off the seniors. I had a handful of these photos in a folder, and I added them to the bulk list for the final review.
The regimen planning for summer training has also begun, and I assisted my mentor with these plans. Mike Wells is also the Assistant Basketball Coach, and he has started to put together the grueling summer workouts that the players will endure. As most athletes know, the off-season is where they can put in the work to get stronger and hone their crafts. He gave me a template and the vital information to input into a special system he has devised. Once their individual information was inputted, a 12-week program detailing each day's activities was created. Each athlete would have a map of their workouts for 12 weeks, all based on their individual abilities and strength levels currently. This is a smart way to create a tailor made workout for each athlete, as they will not have "one size fits all" plan to follow.
Lastly, the varsity Golf team for both men and women are set to compete in the conference championships this Sunday. They will be at the Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont, CA, which is about an hour and a half drive from campus. The coach of the Golf team, Will Morris, compiles notes on each hole of every course they compete on. He already compiled the notes, but wanted to condense them into a booklet that each athlete could reference. There would be a total of 16 golfers competing from Oxy, and with the help of some student workers, we created booklets for each athlete to use. The stage is set for the Golf team to bring home a conference championship, let's go Tigers!
