March 23, 2016 -- Today seemed like a quiet day on campus, yet it is always business as usual for any athletic department. Most of the coaches were out of their offices, some for recruiting and others for other sport specific related activities. Part of being an Intern is going with the flow of the department and culture, and I am glad to take on this role. I assisted with tidying up the student recreation and workout center. This area is reserved mainly for students who would like to keep in shape and workout, as the varsity athletes have their own gym for athletic use. In addition, the desk work I performed today consisted mainly of updating the directory for the athletic department.
Technically, Mike Wells is my mentor and just as a reminder, he is also the Assistant Athletic Director and also an Assistant Coach on the Men's basketball team. During the season, he certainly had his hands full, and I did not see him on a daily basis because he was so busy. I understood this going into the season, and I tried to make his life as clutter free as I could. Luckily, the Department Service Coordinator, Olivia Sabins, was there to aid and guide me during these times. She is the glue that holds the department together, and I have nothing but good things to say about her.
